Product

L3D Emit

Turn model views into engineering deliverables.

L3D Emit rebuilds standard B-Rep solids from Navisworks tessellation and properties, then produces SAT, 3D DWG, 2D drawings, and Evidence. Not a generic format converter — a product for deliverables detailed engineering can continue from.

Alpha development line

Output modes, partitioning, and desktop result classification advance on the Alpha line. Do not conflate Alpha-line scope with main.

Problem

Review does not end in 3D. Drawings, solids, and evidence are required.

Moving a viewed scope into detailed design, submittal, and record needs solids and coordinate-true 2D backgrounds — plus evidence of that moment — not meshes alone. The same outputs should run without Navisworks or AutoCAD installed.

What it does

Rebuilds B-Rep from tessellation and emits deliverables.

L3D Emit reads NWD/NWC/NWF, rebuilds OdDb3dSolid-class B-Rep from tessellation and properties, then emits SAT, 3D Solid DWG, 2D DWG (silhouette/HLR), and Evidence SVG/HTML by selected output mode. The engine is ODA-based and does not depend on Navisworks or AutoCAD APIs.

  • Input: NWD / NWC / NWF (NWD uses Saved Viewpoints; other formats use defined views)
  • Core: tessellation → B-Rep solid reconstruction
  • Output: SAT, 3D DWG, 2D DWG, Evidence SVG/HTML

I/O flow

From model view to deliverable

A mesh left in a final deliverable means that part failed. The goal is solids and engineering-ready 2D.

Capabilities

What the output contract covers

B-Rep solid reconstruction

Does not ship tessellation meshes as final deliverables. Rebuilds standard B-Rep solids; mesh remaining in output marks failure for that part.

SAT · 3D Solid DWG

Supports ACIS SAT and 3D Solid DWG paths. SAT is often preferred for very large models.

2D engineering backgrounds

Produces silhouette/HLR-based 2D DWG from solids so detailed design can continue on coordinate-true backgrounds — providing accurate backgrounds, not “finishing the drawing automatically.”

Evidence

Can emit Evidence SVG/HTML that reflects a Saved Viewpoint’s camera, clip, and redlines — preserving model state at review time.

Host-independent execution

Runs without Navisworks or AutoCAD installed or their APIs. Deliverables come from an ODA-based engine and orchestrator.

Relation to Engineering Context

A deliverable layer — not source-of-truth authority.

Emit does not replace Process or Spatial sources. It continues NWD/NWC from S3DX or existing Navisworks models into engineering deliverables and Evidence, supporting L3D Vue review and detailed-engineering productivity.

Workflow

A typical emit path

  1. 01

Choose NWD/NWC/NWF and the target view (Saved Viewpoint or defined view).

  2. 02

Select output mode (SAT, 3D DWG, 2D, Evidence, etc.) and scope.

  3. 03

Rebuild B-Rep and generate the selected deliverables.

  4. 04

Use the run log for failures and partial success; continue design only from solid parts.

  5. 05

Hand 2D backgrounds and Evidence into detailed design and review workflows.

Boundaries and authority

Why this is not a generic converter

We stay within supported formats, output modes, and Alpha vs main scope. Restoration rates and productivity figures are not published without verification.

Layer Role
Navisworks model Input source (views, tessellation, properties)
B-Rep reconstruction Core transform in the Emit engine
SAT / DWG / Evidence Engineering deliverables
Detailed design tools Authorship and submittal authority stay with users and source CAD
  • No perfect B-Rep restoration, all-format, or 100% automatic drawing claims.
  • No unverified productivity or accuracy percentages.
  • Not presented as a Navisworks/AutoCAD API-dependent product.
  • Alpha-line features are not described as identical to main.
